dc.description.abstractThe article deals with the problem of Biblical myths as they are being assimilated by Russian and U.S. literature . The analysis of the intellectual atmosphere of Russian society of the 19th century and the tradition of humourous interpretation of Biblical myths stemming from the core of the national character and national culture and realized most vividly by A. Pushkin, on the one hand , and the interpretation of Biblical myths by the most prominent U.S. novelists, on the other, manifest the difference between national cultures and national religion, national mentality responsible for this difference.ru_RU
