Мотив сновидений в художественной картине мира Г.Ф. Лавкрафта

Abstract

The article investigates a dream motif in the works of the American writer H.P Lovecraft. Rich creative heritage of the American author allows us to investigate structure-forming role of dreams, their plot-compositional and symbolic functions, to analyze dreams as a mythological system. H.P Lovecraft convincingly proved that the literary text may exist according to the laws of a dream. The motif of the dream as the plot- compositional and ideological is present in the short story "Dagon" by H.P. Lovecraft. As a plot-compositional it helps the author to put into narrative canvas the elements of horror and fantastic. As ideological motif of dream allows the writer to formulate the main theme of his philosophy – the fragility of human laws and the human being on the vast expanses of space.
